Someone is impersonating my company's recruiter. What do I do?

You found a profile that says it recruits for your company. It isn't yours. Someone is borrowing your name to run a job scam, and every candidate who falls for it blames you.

Here is what to do, in order. The goal is not to catch one scammer. It's to make your name useless to every scammer after this one.

Report the profile

Report it to LinkedIn under impersonation, and keep a record of the URL. A report starts a takedown, but it's slow, and rebuilding a scrapped profile takes the scammer an afternoon. Reporting stops one account. It doesn't stop the pattern.

Warn your candidates

Post on your careers page and your socials that you never charge candidates and that you only recruit through named people. This is the message people actually need and it's cheap to put up. But it only reaches the people who already trust you enough to check.

Publish who actually recruits for you

This is the step that changes the math. Publish a public list of the people authorized to recruit for your company. Your real recruiters, by name and LinkedIn profile. Then every candidate who gets a suspicious DM has one place to check it against.

A fake recruiter depends on the candidate not being able to verify. A public roster removes that dependence. The candidate pastes the profile, sees it isn't on your list, and walks away. The scam stops costing you candidates the moment the list is up.

What a roster buys you that a report doesn't

A report removes one account after the fact. A roster makes every current and future fake provably false the moment it appears, because the only people allowed to recruit for you are the ones on the list.

The candidate doesn't need to trust you to tell them who's real and who isn't. They can check against the list themselves. That's the entire difference between "we got one removed" and "no one can convincingly pretend to be us."

Make it someone else's job to fall for, not yours to clean up

Every fake that uses your name is a candidate who walks away with a bad story about your company. You can't stop someone from creating a LinkedIn profile with your company's name on it. You can make sure that profile doesn't survive contact with a candidate who checks.

That's what the roster is. A public statement of who you are, and by exclusion, who you aren't. Put it up once and let the scammers run into it.
